Fun with Dick and Evelyne

It's funny how you can make friends in the most unpredictable ways. Dick and Evelyn Kurtzberg are the parents of Kim Turner (née Kurtzberg). Kim of course is the wife of David Turner who is the best week-end barbecue chef of Irish birth north of 86th street in Indianapolis. Kim and Dave, of course, were the initial friends and through them we got to know Dick and Evelyn. For several years now they've been leaving the civility of rural New York to visit the flyover countryside of Indianapolis - first to see their daughter and now to see their two grandsons.

Anyway, in January we got an e-mail from Dick and Evelyn saying that they would be coming to the South of France for a vacation and, if there was a chance, would we want to meet them. This was not an opportunity to be taken lightly. The Kurtzbergs have been visiting France on almost a yearly basis for quite a few years. Since Theresa and I are the world's worst vacation planners, this was our chance for a little professional apprenticeship.

We were able to take a couple of days vacation to make a four-day weekend from February 23 - 26. This will be the topic of the next several posts. I'll try not to bore you too much, but I don't make any promises.
