Provence: Part Deux - Toward the Côte d'Azur

Provence is rugged and mountainous throughout much of it's territory. As you work your way south, the mountains finally break and drop off to the coast of the Mediteranian. This is the Côte d'Azur (the blue coast) known to movie fans as the French Riviera.

On Friday, we met up with Dick and Evelyn and took a scenic drive from the hotel down to the coast. Scenic, of course, means that we took the roads where certain death awaits anyone who might take a curve too fast. By major roads, it is probably 15 or 20 minutes to the coast from the hotel. Our trip took a little longer...perhaps an hour...but the scenery was well worth it.

The opening photo is the view from the top of the last peaks before you head downhill towards the ocean. Below, Theresa, Dick, and Evelyn are checking out the landmarks from a roadside stop looking back towards Paris.

This is what it looks like. You can't really see Paris from here.
