Sunrise Over La Manche

Our hotel in Quinéville was a block and half from the beach at tops. Thanks to Daylight Savings Time, it was possible to get up in time to see the sun rise over the beaches. Quinéville sits on the Eastern side of the Cherbourg peninsula, which means that it is a perfect place to watch the sun come up over the waters of the English Channel.

The French don't call it the English Channel. I guess you wouldn't expect them to. The waters, after all, are shared by the two countries. The French call these waters "la manche". Translated literally, la manche is "sleeve"...like the sleeve of a shirt...which the channel somewhat resembles.
