Why They Call It the Côte d'Azur

I like the picture above. (If you double click on it, you should be able to download a larger image. I was never good with the big box of Crayola's, but I remember that azure is a color that is a little deeper than sky blue and not so dark as sea blue. (Burnt Umber I'm still not sure about).

Translated, "Côte d'Azur" doesn't just mean the "blue coast" but rather the "azure coast". And it is. The ocean is not deep blue nor is it that funky shade of green you see in the Atlantic. It is as much azure as any crayola could ever be.
