The Food Near Titisee
If you thought German food was all sausages and potato salad, then these pictures will do nothing to prove otherwise. Just a few random food shots from the town of Titisee, in the Black Forest.
Intro picture shows the Black Forest Hams hanging over head with the sausages below. The ham from the region has a distinctive smokey flavor....kind of like eating the ashes from a campfire. I bought a small slab sealed in plastic and now my refrigerator smells like a burnt forest. It's good to eat but best in small quantities for flavoring.
First picture below shows the typical German bread, baked in big wheels and then split into pieces to sell. It's hard to get a sense of scale from the photos, but I believe the wheels on the back shelf are about 2 feet in diameter.Following are two meals from a sidewalk eatery. The funky looking yellow stuff in both is the potato salad. Theresa had the pair of knackwurst. I'm not really sure what mine was. They called it meatloaf, but it was more like a giant slab of baloney baked in a bread pan. It was all good, though.
